Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Every day, there are people out there embracing their natural, beautiful, textured hair and owning their unique style. We are here to celebrate these strong, gorgeous women and their strong, gorgeous hair, because perfect natural is what Cantu is all about. Our collection of award-winning products made just for textured hair is all you need to achieve any look or style you want. My Curl. My Cantu.”

Cantu Beauty

I introduced my natural hair journey, in my previous post… Obia Naturals.  I discovered Cantu products about a year after I stopped relaxing my hair. I enjoy Cantu’s natural hair product. I rated them 4 stars, because I am not a fan of the Co-Wash. This particular product makes my hair feel hard and brittle, which is very different from the other products listed. My hair is left soft, and bouncy. If you are struggling with finding products click on the link listed above. The site recommends products for each hair type, also which products to cocktail to achieve the perfect style. Below are the products I used, and styles achieved. I color my hair every 6 months, and the Texas heat is crucial, so a Leave in Conditioner is a must for me.

Waiting for your Boaz

Hello my Single Ladies!

Most women embrace being single, and you ladies are super dope! However, I know it is more than a few who struggle with it. You are probably asking yourself what’s wrong you. I’m here to let you know, it’s nothing wrong with you. God simply has not brought your Boaz to you. In the meantime, and in the season of our singleness we have to focus on what God is trying to show and teach us. Work on growing closer to Him, being obedient and humble, and working on your craft. Also, ladies God does not need your help finding your mate. People will tell you things like you have to get out the house more, do this… Do that. When in all actuality you do not have to do any of those things. God will make sure you are where you need to be…. It is His timing, and not yours. Let God mold, develop, and prepare you for your King.

Ruth 2 – Check out the story.

The House That Hustle Built Book Review

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nisa Santiago came bursting onto the literary scene in 2009 with her debut title, Cartier Cartel. She followed up with the sequel, Return of the Cartier Cartel – which turned into a national bestseller. The Library Journal declared that Santiago’s sequel, [Return of the Cartier Cartel] “Will keep readers hooked to the last chapter.” The author emphatically states that her decision to start a new series instead of penning part 3 to Cartier Cartel was a brave one. “My readers love Cartier and they wanted more.” Santiago wants her readers to know that she has so many stories to tell and shows no signs of slowing down.

She is hands down one of my favorite authors. I have read every book she has published, and I have referred her to many of my friends and family. I would encourage you to get lost in Nisa’s world, you will not regret it. Not only is she a talented writer, she has a great soul. I have written her on numerous occasions, and she responds to her fans. She takes the time out to connect with her fans, and it is a great example of the humanity she portrays.

Nisa Santiago

My Rating-

Overall both books of this trilogy are great!

Pearla, one of the main characters in this book, is a natural born hustler.  Hustling since the age of 13, she put together a crew  of ladies who made a name for themselves  boosting high priced clothing items.  Pearla does not have the best relationship with her mom, which causes her to stay in the streets. Pearl made two major mistakes in the story. Becoming too big in the head and burning bridges, and empowering a man who was not  worth it.

Cash, the other main character, started out as a local  “hood” car jacker. He started stealing cars at the age of 12, its something he loved and enjoyed doing. Cash loved the life he lived he loved the streets, the hustle, and his crew. He grew up in poverty, so stealing cars was a step up in life in his eyes.  His relationship with his parents was quite dysfunctional as well. Father, a known crackhead in the neighborhood, and his Mom, is constantly being thrown in jail for prostituting herself.

The two (Pearla and Cash) find themselves together. From the outside looking in they are the perfect couple, dynamic duo. However, they were both dealing with major issues and not mature enough to appreciate one another. Pearla fully investing in her man, seen his potential and empowered him to grow his trade. Pearla made the mistake of many women, being the power house she is, wanted her man to be on the same level. Cash never wanted to be anything more than a local hustler. The relationship had many great moments, and even more explosive!

I love the story, for the bigger picture. The story deals with things we all battle on a daily basis. Family issues, jealousy from peers, and trying to advance in a world that seems to care nothing about you.

The trilogy is full of many exciting surprises. I recommend you read this book, and pass it on.

Elsa’s on the Park

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Elsa’s is a chic restaurant located in downtown Milwaukee. The trendy restaurant that serves burgers & martinis in a lively, funky venue showcasing rotating artwork. The establishment has been around for more than 30 years, and you are always surprised with the forever changing ecliptic artwork. The restaurant is known for it’s burgers, but many patrons will beg to differ. The hottest item on the menu are their wings. I am not a fan of wings, or really chicken for that matter but I have fancied a wing or two from Elsa’s. I have tried many things on the menu, and I am never disappointed.

The crowd is pretty mixed. On any given day you can rub elbows with politicians, local air personalities, CEO’s, celebrities in the city, and business professionals. The restaurant is pretty pricey, but it comes with the location and the overall ambience of the restaurant.

On my recent visit I was blown away by the excellent customer service my friends and I received. I have never been disappointed when going to Elsa’s. I also have to be biased and say they have some of the best cocktails in the city. It is on my to do list every time I visit Milwaukee.

JoJos Martini Lounge

Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Jojos is located in Milwaukee, Wi. It is a Cosmopolitan hangout with an artful motif providing specialty cocktails, plus weekly drink specials.

My Review-

Once upon a time I used to love this place! I referred to it as the Cheers in my neighborhood. For the people who know me, they will be surprised by this rating. My recent visit to JoJos was not pleasant at all! When you work in a customer service friendly environment, bad service is not acceptable. When I first arrived at JoJos it was noticeably empty, so maybe the service has something to do with that. However, I was greeted right away which was great. But the guy did not seem too interested in helping. I placed an order for a drink and a pepperoni pizza. The guy delivered my drink, and 30 min later still no pizza. Matter of fact, I do not even see the guy anymore. I had to flag down another lady working. I asked where the gentleman was who originally served us, and she says, “oh he is gone,” then walks away. Minutes later I get her attention again, to state I ordered a pizza. She never apologized for the inconvience, just asked if I still wanted it. Again, not really seeming to care if I did or didn’t.

Im curious to know, why nobody came to take over his tables? Is that not something you do when you work in a restaurant?! I was beyond disturbed with the lack of service. I am not sure if they are under new management, or need to be. Needless to say the next time I am in town, I will not break my neck to “fancy” this establishment again.

I provided the 2 stars, because the cocktails were still a delight! Only reason!

Single in the City

Hey ladies I decided to provide a post to help my single ladies feel a little more comfortable. Being single in a big city can be intimidating. I know many women are not comfortable being in public alone, but I am here to tell you, you are not alone. If you still are not comfortable to putting your feet in the water just yet, many cities have groups you can join to get out and meet people. I am the queen of networking. So whatever your profession, or your interests are I am sure there is a group. If you are in the DFW area, I will provide some links to groups I joined. If not, just ask and I will be more than happy to help you search for groups in your area to join!

A few tips for you ladies:

*It is ok to dine alone, catch a great movie, play, or go to the museum

*Do not feel obligated to talk to every man that approaches you

*It is also ok to spark a conversation with someone that does catch your attention

*Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, if heels are not your thing do not kill yourself wearing them to impress a man

*This also includes hair and makeup, be true to who you are.. the perfect man will love you as you are

A Sinful Calling Book Review

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author, Kimberla Lawson Roby has published 23 novels. She is best known for her depiction of real-life social issues written in a fictional format. Kimberly has also won numerous awards for her talent. Her novels deal with very real issues, including corruption in the church, drug addiction, infidelity, gender discrimination, and racism to name a few.

Kimbela gets even more love from me, since we share the same Alma Mater; Cardinal Stritch University.

Roby is best known for her Reverend Curtis Black series , and A Sinful Calling is the latest in this series.

My Review-

The review for this book, does not  reflect how I feel about the overall series. I rated the book a 4 for the following reasons; Dillon’s character was not significant enough for a spinoff, and I am totally over Alicia. She is beyond confused, and it just became annoying. I get it, we are uncovering major issues we are faced with today in the both of them. However, I just feel it was overkill.

Ill elaborate more on the issues outlined in this book. Dillon suffered from major depression, which turned into acholism. Alicia suffered from psychotic depression, which caused her to try and commite suicide. We go through things in our lives, and we are taught to just deal with them. Mental Illness is a real thing, and it affects so many people. We can not be too proud to recognize when we have a problem. Also, as friends we have to support others who may suffer from Mental Illness.

If you or anyone you know, may be battling with Mental Illness please seek help. A great organization to turn to is NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. You can reach them by phone, 800-950 NAMI. Or you can click on the following link Please help spread the word.

OBIA Naturals Review

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I started my natural hair journey, November 2013. I did not do the big chop, so to say this has been a journey is an understatement. I recently attended the Dallas Curlfriends Brunch, presented by Obia Naturals. Omini Ewah is the President of OBIA Naturals, and she spoke very passionately about her personal journey. Her words were inspiring, encouraging, and very motivating. I was intrigued to try her line. To my surprise inside of my fabulous Deluxe Swag bag, which was provided to its patrons, were products from Obia’s natural hair care line.

To speak more on my journey, finding products that work for me have been a challenge. It took about a year to figure out my texture. I never understood why my hair was not curly, only to find out I have more of a wave pattern. Obia Naturals products are cruelty free, and vegan. The mission of OBIA Naturals is to produce pH balanced, vegan, and non – toxic natural hair and body care products fortified with natural ingredients. I will honestly say, her products provided my hair with so much life. My hair was vibrant, shiny, and fluffy. I fell in love! The remainder of the week, I did not have to add any additional product to maintain my style. After my week, I was able to capture the same experience using the hydrating spray.

I recommend all of OBIA Natural products. Pictures below of the finished product! I’m also providing a link, so you are able to locate products in your area.

Luxe Book Review

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ashley Antionette is the most successful female writer of her time. The feminine half of the popular married duo, Ashley and JaQuavis, she has co-written over 40 novels. Several of her titles have hit the New York Times best-sellers list, she is most widely regarded for her racy four-book saga, The Prada Plan… Which is by far one of my favorites! Ashley and her husband are extremely talented, and I definitely recommend checking out their work.

My Review-

Bleu, who is the product of two crackhead parents experienced more at a young age, than most in a lifetime. Her parents used to have a great reputation in Flint, Michigan but turned to become dependent of the street pharmacetuicals sold. They lost everything, and argued constantly about getting high. Bleu hated her life, many days she went nights without eating, and everything she had was used, old, and worn.

Bleu witnessed her father being murdered, and it scared her for life. Bleu’s mother resented her and the abuse became worse, because she reminded her of her father. Seventeen years of this treatment, but Bleu stayed dedicated to school, and working to make something of herself. Senior year she gets a partial scholarship to UCLA. Bleu takes it, and decides to work and attend classes.. anything to remove her from her current situation. Bleu vowed to never make the same mistakes as her parents….

Bleu attends UCLA and encounters so many situations  that we all do, as college students. It is very interesting to read the turn of events, and how she handles certain situations. One of the reasons I am a fan of this book, is the same reason as others. Ashley makes her characters the envy of everyone. These young ladies may be committing high prices crimes, or battling with major psychological issues. However, they are not your typical “thugs,” the ladies role with class. People aspire to be these types, and it shows you the grass is not always greener on the other side.

This was definitely a great read, and I am anxious to read part 2.
