Nisa Santiago came bursting onto the literary scene in 2009 with her debut title, Cartier Cartel. She followed up with the sequel, Return of the Cartier Cartel – which turned into a national bestseller. The Library Journal declared that Santiago’s sequel, [Return of the Cartier Cartel] “Will keep readers hooked to the last chapter.” The author emphatically states that her decision to start a new series instead of penning part 3 to Cartier Cartel was a brave one. “My readers love Cartier and they wanted more.” Santiago wants her readers to know that she has so many stories to tell and shows no signs of slowing down.
She is hands down one of my favorite authors. I have read every book she has published, and I have referred her to many of my friends and family. I would encourage you to get lost in Nisa’s world, you will not regret it. Not only is she a talented writer, she has a great soul. I have written her on numerous occasions, and she responds to her fans. She takes the time out to connect with her fans, and it is a great example of the humanity she portrays.
Overall both books of this trilogy are great!
Pearla, one of the main characters in this book, is a natural born hustler. Hustling since the age of 13, she put together a crew of ladies who made a name for themselves boosting high priced clothing items. Pearla does not have the best relationship with her mom, which causes her to stay in the streets. Pearl made two major mistakes in the story. Becoming too big in the head and burning bridges, and empowering a man who was not worth it.
Cash, the other main character, started out as a local “hood” car jacker. He started stealing cars at the age of 12, its something he loved and enjoyed doing. Cash loved the life he lived he loved the streets, the hustle, and his crew. He grew up in poverty, so stealing cars was a step up in life in his eyes. His relationship with his parents was quite dysfunctional as well. Father, a known crackhead in the neighborhood, and his Mom, is constantly being thrown in jail for prostituting herself.
The two (Pearla and Cash) find themselves together. From the outside looking in they are the perfect couple, dynamic duo. However, they were both dealing with major issues and not mature enough to appreciate one another. Pearla fully investing in her man, seen his potential and empowered him to grow his trade. Pearla made the mistake of many women, being the power house she is, wanted her man to be on the same level. Cash never wanted to be anything more than a local hustler. The relationship had many great moments, and even more explosive!
I love the story, for the bigger picture. The story deals with things we all battle on a daily basis. Family issues, jealousy from peers, and trying to advance in a world that seems to care nothing about you.
The trilogy is full of many exciting surprises. I recommend you read this book, and pass it on.
