Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated is a nonprofit African American mother’s organization with a membership of nearly 10,000. Since 1938, the organization’s objectives are to “create a medium of contact for children which will stimulate growth and development and provide children a constructive educational, cultural, civic, health, recreational and social programs.”
I was more than honored to be a part of The 5th Annual “Destination CEO Art of Leadership.” The event was hosted by Jack and Jill of America Inc, Greater Frisco and Northeast Dallas Chapters. Many students gathered for the event to participate in 6 tracks (classes) to help them broaden their horizons, and take control of their future. The 6 tracks were; Budgeting with my Future in Mind (My Group), Toastmasters – Public Speaking Excellence, Young Entrepreneur Expo, Interior Design, The Future of Medicine – Virtual Health, and Cooking with Darin.
So much fun was had this day! I had the pleasure to teach 150 students on different ways to maintain a budget. My group ranged from elementary aged students to high school. My younger students put together Anchor Charts at the end of our session, and my older students played a Kahoot game. The kiddos were very engaged, and asked many stimulating questions.
Not only were awesome classes offered to our students, but their parents were included as well. They had the opportunity to learn more about how to recognize signs of depression, how to navigate scholarships or the intern process, as well as how to prepare your child for global competition.. Good stuff! I believe these options for parents are just as awesome! Mainly because mental health is real, and shouldn’t be ignored. It can also be challenging to help your children succeed if you yourself are missing key factors. The children are our future and it is best we continue to invest in them.
I captured many moments from my time, and I put together a few for you to view. I hope to be a continued volunteer for the Jack and Jill of America organization. Enjoy!
