Miller Brewery Tour

Image result for miller brewery tour

The Miller Brewing Company is an American beer brewing company headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company has brewing facilities in Albany, Georgia; Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; Fort Worth, Texas; Irwindale, California; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Trenton, Ohio. On July 1, 2008, SABMiller formed MillerCoors, a joint venture with rival Molson Coors to consolidate the production and distribution of its products in the United States, with each parent company’s corporate operations and international operations to remain separate and independent of the joint venture.

Believe it or not I was born and raised in Milwaukee and never attended this tour, until I had family in town for my wedding. I am not a big beer drinker, but I enjoyed learning the history and other interesting fun facts. While you’re on the tour plan to do a lot of walking, taking a lot of steps, and you may be subject to very warm or cold temperatures (temporarily).

Tour Overview
In Miller Valley you will experience an indoor/outdoor guided walking tour of over 160 years of brewing history. Experience everything from Fredrick Miller’s arrival in Milwaukee to the high-speed production lines used today. Your tour seamlessly blends the rich history of Miller Brewing Co. with the modern technology of today’s brewing process. Our tours begin with a beer because… why not? We will immerse your senses as we take you back in time to our famous underground caves and historic, Bavarian-Style Miller Inn. Don’t worry, you will rejoin us in the 21st Century as we move on to our modern operations including our Brew House, Packaging and Distribution Centers. Ice-cold refreshing samples of our finest brews will be served at various stops along the tour (and after!) for those 21 and older.

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. However, Breast Cancer Awareness should be an ongoing thing. We all know at least one Breast Cancer Warrior, or someone who lost their battle to Breast Cancer. Supporting the research and making donations will help one more person become a warrior. Today we hear from one of our awesome warriors, Lisa Washington.  Hear her story, be encouraged, get tested, donate!

It was a few months after my 40th Birthday when I went in for a routine mammogram. I had been having them since I was 35 due to family history. They were ready to send me on my way when I mentioned to the radiologist I had felt a lump a few weeks earlier. Since this lump did not show up on the mammogram, she then ordered a sonogram (which is what Affrican American women should request due to our dense breast tissue) and the sonogram was able to detect the lump which turned out to be breast cancer. After 6 rounds of chemo, two surgeries and radiation I stand with so many other women as not just survivors but thrivers. I am thankful for the doctors, nurses and the medicine but God is my healer. #Godisfaithful Lisa Washington

Understanding Breast Cancer

Cancer is a broad term for a class of diseases characterized by abnormal cells that grow and invade  healthy cells in the body.  Breast cancer starts in the cells of the breast as a group of cancer cells that can then invade surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to other areas of the body. Breast cancer occurs when malignant tumors develop in the breast.  These cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor and entering blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into tissues throughout the body. When cancer cells travel to other parts of the body and begin damaging other tissues and organs, the process is called metastasis.

Southfork Ranch

History at Southfork began in 1978, when Lorimar Productions chose the North Texas showplace as the site for the CBS TV series Dallas. The hit series, which counted millions of viewers across the United States and in 95 countries as fans, was originally broadcast in the United States from 1978 to 1991. The series continues to be broadcast in syndication and still is in first-run status in many countries around the world. Because of the ranch’s high profile on television, the beautiful white mansion, the pool, the barns and surroundings quickly became a tourist mecca. – Southfork Ranch

I recently visited and toured the Southfork Ranch and had a blast! I wasn’t a fan of the Dallas show, because it was slightly before my time. However, after the tour I found myself watching older episodes as well as the newer episodes because I was so intrigued. I had no idea the actual show wasn’t recorded in this house, but instead in a studio in California. The owners of the home wanted their children’s lives to be as normal as possible. Which after the show gained popularity was pretty hard to do. The cast was able to shoot certain shots and scenes, but had many restrictions. One of the restrictions being, they could only record in the summer.. While the kids were not in school. If you know anything about Dallas they have consecutive 100 degree weather days. So kudos to the actors, because they truly acted as if they weren’t burning from the heat. Once the owners of the home grew tired of the crowds, they sold the mansion for tourist reasons. Now you can visit the mansion for tours throughout the year. The property is also used for special events.

Cantu Product Review

Award winning textured haircare line,  Cantu recently launched a New Anti Fade, color protecting collection that is formulated with a unique Quinoa Pro-Tech technology that results in up to 84% less color fade.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recently switched up my normal blonde for red. As I am sure many of you red heads have had a problem with the color fading like I have. Once I saw Cantu came out with this new product, I was super excited and ready to try it! To give you a little bit of an overview of the product. You have to use all the products in the picture above for the best results. The shampoo is said to was away build up without stripping color, reduces color fade. The conditioner, moisturizes to enhance color vibrancy, and protects color while improving manageability. And the masque is supposed to strengthen and softens color treated hair.

The reason behind my 4 stars, is I didn’t really care for the masque. The product made my hair feel hard and brittle. Now, from the pictures you will see my hair faded. Which I am sure over time that will happen. Mine happened a little sooner than I would have liked. I can’t really say that this product specifically helped. I would love to hear feedback from others who have tried the product. Nonetheless, it was worth checking it out.. The product smells great!

Punch Bowl Social

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Punch Bowl Social was imagined by Robert Thompson after an extensive career of conceptualizing and operating both large-format entertainment brand and independent boutique restaurants. Following the successful openings of nine different restaurant concepts, Robert began to actualize his vision for Punch Bowl Social early 2010 but it took three years of real estate searches, design iterations and funding discussions before the first location opened in Denver’s historic Baker neighborhood in November 2012.

Prior to me patronizing this establishment  I had never heard of it, I simply did a search on Open Table in Austin for American restaurants.  I really enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and the food.. Reason behind the 5 stars.  I was mostly attracted to the layout. It was a great environment to have a night out with friends. You can have dinner, as well as enjoy bowling, darts or billiards. I even saw a place for Karaoke!  I wasn’t expecting any of that. I went for Brunch, but I plan to visit another location for dinner. I’m sure you’ll be able to find a location in your city, if not check out all the cities Punch Bowl Social will soon be. I’m mostly excited they are building locations in my current city, Dallas.. And my hometown, Milwaukee.

Current Locations:  Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, and Schaumburg.

Coming Soon To: Arlington VA, Dallas, Fort Worth, Milwaukee, Miami, Salt Lake City, Washington D.C, and St. Louis.

Concrete Cowboy

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

SoClutch Group owns Concrete Cowboy and they have several locations. SoClutch specializes in modern, upscale restaurants, bar and nightclub entertainment. Each brand is uniquely crafted to provide exceptional customer experiences through design, atmosphere and superior service.”  You can find Concrete Cowboy in the following cities; Dallas, Austin, Houston, Chicago, and Frisco.

I decided to host my birthday dinner at this restaurant based upon rave reviews from friends, and I definitely concur. I provided the 5 stars for the overall experience. The food was great from the appetizers, to the drinks, and finally the main course. The restaurant has the feel of a sports bar, and the staff was dressed in sports attire. I had my reservations about stepping in to Cowboy nation as a Packer girl, but it was ok. 😆

As stated I went for dinner, but a brunch menu is provided as well.  I have every intention of checking out their brunch sometime in the near future. If you are in any of the cities listed above I highly recommend you check out Concrete Cowboy.

Healthy Heart

What is heart disease?

When people talk about heart disease, they are usually talking about coronary heart disease (CHD). It’s also called coronary artery disease (CAD). This is the most common type of heart disease. When someone has CHD, the coronary arteries (tubes) that take blood to the heart are narrow or blocked. This happens when cholesterol and fatty material, called plaque, build up inside the arteries. – Web MD

Ways to prevent Heart Disease:

*Eat healthy.
*Get active.
*Stay at a healthy weight.
*Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke.
*Control your cholesterol and blood pressure.
*If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
*Manage stress.

Am I at risk for heart disease? Everyone is at risk for heart disease. But you are at higher risk for heart disease if you:

*Have high cholesterol or high blood pressure
*Smoke
*Are overweight or obese
*Don’t get enough physical activity
*Don’t eat a healthy diet

Your age and family history also affect your risk for heart disease. Your risk is higher if:

*You are a woman over age 55
*You are a man over age 45
*Your father or brother had heart disease before age 55
*Your mother or sister had heart disease before age 65

But the good news is there’s a lot you can do to prevent heart disease!

Control your cholesterol and blood pressure -High cholesterol and high blood pressure can cause heart disease and heart attack. If your cholesterol or blood pressure numbers are high, you can take steps to lower them. Get your cholesterol checked. – It’s important to get your cholesterol checked at least every 4 to 6 years. Some people will need to get it checked more or less often (I have to get my checked every 90 days). Get your blood pressure checked – Starting at age 18, get your blood pressure checked regularly. High blood pressure has no signs or symptoms.

Best Practices:

*Get active: Getting active can help prevent heart disease. Adults need at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. This includes walking fast, dancing, and biking. If you are just getting started, try walking for 10 minutes a day, a few days each week. Then add more activity over time.
*Stay at a healthy weight: People who are overweight or obese are at an increased risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. If you are overweight or obese, losing just 10 pounds can lower your risk of heart disease. Find out how to control your weight.
*Quit smoking and stay away from secondhand smoke: Quitting smoking helps lower your risk of heart disease and heart attack. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) for free support and to set up your plan for quitting. Avoiding secondhand smoke is important, too so keep your home smoke-free. If you have guests who smoke, ask them to smoke outside. If someone in your home smokes, use these tips to start a conversation about quitting.
*Manage stress: Managing stress can help prevent serious health problems like heart disease, depression, and high blood pressure. Deep breathing and meditation are good ways to relax and manage stress.

The Family Business

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Carl Weber is a New York Times and #1 Essence® bestselling novelist. In addition to his writing, Weber is the founder and publisher of Urban Books and in 2005, he was named Blackboard’s Publisher of the Year. He is the owner of the Urban Knowledge chain of book stores and a past recipient of Blackboard’s Bookseller of the Year award.

I never would have imagined this series would have turned out the way it has. Carl Weber is such a talented writer, it’s hard to keep up! I started this series back in 2012! 😳 I believe that shows why I rated the series 5 stars. Every book is a page turner, and we are 8 books in, and I hope it doesn’t end anytime soon.

LC Duncan is the owner of Duncan Motors, the largest African American owned dealership chain. I found that fact alone to be quite interesting, you don’t hear of too many families owning a dealership. LC had very humble beginnings, and the only one of his brothers to graduate from college. LC was smart, motivated, and driven. Without providing too much information, it’s a lot going on in this dealership! Things you couldn’t even imagine, because as stated LC runs one of the most respected car dealerships.

Prior to moving to New York city, LC was beyond smitten by a young lady named Chippy. I always say nothing worth having comes easy, and Chippy did not. Chippy didn’t attend the same college LC did, or any college at all. She was very different from the person he started out with, a nice young lady named Donna. LC preferred his women a little more grounded like himself, and Donna was a little too uppity to keep his interest. After all sorts of drama LC and Chippy ended up together, and oddly enough Donna never leaves the picture. The couple has 5 kids; Junior, Orlando, Paris, London, and Rio. As you can see the names are a bit extreme, and trust their lifestyle matches exactly who they are.

I highly recommend getting started with this series. You can purchase his books on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Happy reading! 📚

Online Dating II

“Online dating is a system that enables strangers to find and introduce themselves to new personal connections over the Internet, usually with the goal of developing personal, or romantic relationships. An online dating service is a company that provides specific mechanisms for online dating through the use of Internet-connected personal computers or mobile devices. Such companies offer a wide variety of unmoderated matchmaking services, most of which are profile-based.” Wikipedia

Online dating is the new thing for us, if you feel ashamed.. DON’T. I would say it has many perks, and very convenient. Many people have found love and success from online dating. Also, you have to be very careful when dating people you have no background on. Be open, as well as smart and cautious.  Random Fact: I absolutely love the movie, “You’ve Got Mail” with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks… If you haven’t seen it, check it out! That movie alone made me;  A) love Starbucks, and B) take a stab at online dating.

Online dating doesn’t have as much stigma as it used to. With about 40 million Americans using dating sites and apps, it’s becoming more and more common for people to meet and date online. Not to mention the fact that we spend most of our time connecting through our phones on social apps like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat anyway. I found a few pros and cons on online dating.

Pros:

  • 40% OF AMERICANS HAVE TRIED ONLINE DATING… INCLUDING ME… YOU AREN’T ALONE
  • DATING SITES MATCH BASED ON COMPATIBILITY AND PERSONALITY
  • MEET PEOPLE YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE EVER CROSSED PATHS WITH
  • ONE OUT OF FIVE RELATIONSHIPS START ONLINE
  • IF YOU SEEK OUT A PAY SITE YOU USUALLY HAVE BETTER QUALITY

Cons:

  • IT’S A CROWDED DIGITAL SPACE… YOU COULD POTENTIALLY SEE SOMEONE YOU KNOW. 🙈
  • YES, PEOPLE DO LIE ON THEIR PROFILES. #CATFISH 🙄
  • YOUR BEST CHANCE IS STILL MEETING THROUGH A FRIEND
  • WEIRDOS/STALKERS

With all that being said, the choice is yours. I’ll reiterate the importance of being safe! Do not share too much information too fast. If you have police officer friends, have them run their background.. Hilarious, but I am so serious. 😂
